A Barton & Co. began making dolls house furniture just after the Second World War in 1945, providing employment for demobbed British soldiers.
They began making dolls house furniture under the ‘Model Home’ logo, mass producing dolls house furniture.
Barton used the name “Caroline’s Home” as a trade mark from about 1976. They produced sets of furniture in boxes and on cards enclosed with plastic. Most young girls during this time owned a doll’s house, many home-made from plans from Hobbys. Or they could buy the Caroline’s Home dolls house to put their furniture in.
In 1984 Barton and the Caroline’s Home brand were taken over by Lundby of Sweden. The production of the houses and furniture continued in the UK until the late 1980’s.
I don’t much about dating this furniture, so I have just used the 1976 catalogue as a guide.

Barton Furniture is the perfect size for this house, I love the fact that it is all made out of wood.
You will probably have noticed the bird-cage is at a rather jaunty angle, the cage is very distorted. The people in the picture are quite small, but all have wire in, so they can be bent into position.
The furniture in this picture is a very pale pink, but it does not show up very well, it is Barton around approx 1950/60’s.

I do so like their bedroom suites and kitchen wall cupboards – got a whole thing going with them really. I buy the odd one because it ‘waves’ at me but don’t use them much as most are produced as Caroline’s Home 1970s but look to me to be earlier design. I keep resisting adding the odd kitchen wallcupboard in to a 50s scene. Seeing the wall cupboards against a strong 70s paper really does place them in their decade well. Many thanks 😉

I like the fact that most of the furniture is made of wood, and fit nicely into my smaller scale Triang Houses. I do agree with you that they do not have that 70’s style.
